Hi guys I have a Dell Studio 1735 and Im currently using Dells A04 BIOS Revision I recently went to Dells support and driver download section on there web page and noticed that they have a recommended BIOS update to
    A05 so I downloaded it.
I ran the .exe file as Dell says and it should automatically flash the BIOS.
But it didnt work and I suspect Windows 7 having something to do with it the download file must only work with XP and Vista.
I have herd that you can create a bootable ISO file and flash the BIOS from a boot CD.
Has anyone done this yet and would be able to email the ISO file so I can update ?
    Any help would be great.

Have you tried running that file in Windows XP compatibility mode? If you right-click on the file and select properties, there should be an option to choose which previous Windows version to run it with. Note that this is not the same as that XP-Mode feature coming with the Professional/Ultimate versions of Windows 7.

Who the hell flashes their system BIOS in Windows? Burn the ISO to a CD and flash your BIOS outside of Windows.

I DO - any chances that the BIOS is being made available via Windows flash! Never miss a beat, never an issue!

That is what OP asks for assistance. Help her/him out!

    cheers ...

I've always done Dell BIOS flashes from Windows....I like how it checks to make sure it's okay to flash.

Dell doesn't provide BIOS updaters that run under DOS. They are designed to be used from within Windows. Until Dell provides BIOS updates that run in Windows 7, you'll either have to install Vista/XP on another partition, or use a tool like BartPE to create a Windows boot environment and attempt to flash your BIOS that way (I have never done that, so I cannot say if it will work).

Cheers guys for the info, I do have a BartPE disc that I could try kegobeer or I could contact Dell and let them know that they have an issue with many users now running Windows 7 and that they need to start releaseing BIOS windows uppdaters for the new OS.

Personally, if I'm not having issues with my bios, I try not to update it until need be. I stuck with A06 even when A12 was out for my comp. and only upgraded once my Windows 7 video drivers wanted the upgrade.

Until W7 is released, don't expect any BIOS releases compatible with it. Even in RC status, there is always a chance that changes will be made - and those changes could mean retooling the BIOS software not once, but twice.

Most BIOS flash programs are DOS compatible any more. I just keep a FreeDOS bootable USB drive around, copy the exe's over, boot from that and flash it. You can still use it like a completely normal USB drive otherwise. That's the only way I can update my Linux machines because Windows isn't even installed on most computers in my house.

I had a similar problem with a BIOs update on my HP laptop w/ Win 7 RC 7100. The installer ran but the automatic flashing feature didn't kick in. I just found where the files were copied to the C drive and then ran it from there.

    It worked w/o any problem.

In regards to those who prefer to flash from DOS. IMHO, it was a lot easier to do it w/ older OSes than now.
