Theres an empty folder...on my second partition, I don't know what it went to but the name of the folder is "yep" (sounds like something i would do". But its completely empty, and I can't delete it, it says its write protected or in use, and i can't open it, says I and restricted from it. Ive tried deleting it in safe mode...Any idea on what to do?

another good trick is to open task manager (ctrl alt del), as well as a command prompt (cmd.exe)
Now, from task manager, close explorer.exe
Through the command window, you should now be able to delete files that were previously in use. (Just 'cd' to the folder, then 'del' it, just like in the good old dos days)
Finally, restart explorer.exe (either through the command prompt, or from task manager -> file -> new task

Go to your control panel -> user account -> Change the way users log on and off (or something like that) and disable quick user switching and the welcome screen. Log off, then log on as "administrator" with the password you set up during the install process.

It could also be an ownership issue. Right click on the folder, choose properties, security - > advanced -> owner. Change the owner to your user, then try to delete it.

That will give you full admin privledges. I do highly suggest you enable a password for the system admin and be sure you ONLY use this in the rare instance you must remove or alter a system component. DO NOT use it as your everyday account, as it is very easy to destroy your computer with complete admin privledges.

Wouldn't it be like the following?

    Code:
    rmdir /s yep
rmdir delete's a folder and the /s switch tells it to do everything below it including files. Correct me if I am wrong. I'm going to double check it on my laptop when I go on break here.

hmm, possibly... I think both would work, actually. (del is for files mainly, but with /s, it recurses through folders too)

But yeah, now you mention it, I suppose rmdir is the "proper" command for it. Couldn't remember that one though... :)

when i type in rmdir /s yep under the command prompt after I ended explorer it says that the system cannot find the file specified...

its on my D drive not my C drive which my windows is on..if that makes any difference.

If you're having this much trouble with command prompt, why not just use moveonboot like I posted before? I know it *one more program*, but its better than having something like this bug you. Trust me! :p

Post 666... I'm evil! Don't listen to my advice! :p

Wow dang. That one saved me when I got hit with "access denied". Hidden admin? No. Cancel explorer.exe? No. Moveonboot does it. I'll let the clever people come back to you on this one...

    open the command prompt

it's been a while since I've used Windows, but you need to change to the appropriate drive. try just typing in "d:", or try typing "cd d:" without quotes, obviously. then type "dir" which will list the contents of the drive, just to make sure that you're at the right spot, then use the "rmdir" command others have suggested.

Have you done a complete virus/trojan/malware scan? If not, you should do one soon.

You can try terminating processes - if something is accessing that folder, you may regain control if you find the offending process and terminate it.

Unlocker may be an application you want to try. Apparently after you install it all you have to is right-click on the folder and select Unlocker. Then it will allow you to "unlock" the file so you may delete it. You can even kill the process that is locking the file to begin with from here. If you want to delete the folder (which apparently you do looking over this thread...) then select Delete from the dropdown prior to clicking "Unlock All". See if this works for you and report back. The program is freeware.

    So in summary...

    1. Download and install Unlocker
    2. Right click on the folder
    3. Select Unlocker
    4. Select Delete from the dropdown on the lower-left corner of the window.
    5. Click Unlock All

Boot into safe mode as the root administrator. Start killing off unnecessary processes one at a time - after each termination try to delete the folder.

Also, did you check the ownership of the folder, and have you checked for hidden files within that folder?

You may want to get a registry cleaner and clean up your registry.
