I've noticed that on smaller laptops--an Inspiron 710m I saw at a Dell kiosk, as well as a Sony Vaio I looked at years ago--the font letters within Word look really sharp and smooth. I'm not sure why this is, or specifically how I can get my current laptop--an Inspiron 4150--and, more importantly, my on-order laptop--an Inspiron e1405--to do this.
My computer is already set to ClearType, so it isn't that--it is much sharper, as if the letters were brushed on (that is, they don't look "pixely"). I also tried adjusting the resolution, but that didn't seem to make a difference.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Thanks!

there are two applications i know that will make your screen fonts sharper than the default windows font. using clear type will not the do the job. but you can try these two applications:
1. Cleartweak by Ioisland
http://www.ioisland.com/cleartweak/index.php
2.clearType tuner by Microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
i personally use cleartweak. just open it then adjust default 1400 contrast setting to 1000. hope this helps

well....ir depends on the resoultion of the screen....the higher the resolution, the more sharper and clear fonts and icons will appear

well not really.. the default windows contrast for fonts is not too clear.. i have a higher resolution but my font is still not too sharp (the icons are all crystal clear except for the fonts) and using the applications above make a lot of difference..

ah okay..interesting.

Thanks qohelet, although I don't think it made much of a difference. What I saw on this 710m was strikingly different, much sharper and smooth--as I said, it almost looked like brush or pen markings. I'm thinking that it has something to do with the screen size (and thus resolution) as the only time I've seen this before was on another small laptop (Vaio).
