    I did both. Although it worked well after the upgrade, the fresh install is night and day.

    meh, i wish stores like best buy and such gave you the option to sell a laptop or desktop clean. i ALWAYS do a clean install.

    Here is the definitve answer - for anybody who wants to upgrade a 2-year old machine that's had hundreds of junk programs installed and has been abused by a family throughout its life. Basically, a worst-case scenario. Here's their 'typical machine' -

    I'm so glad I clean installed. I had use the RC upgrade for a few months and this clean install seems much smoother and faster than the RC

    Clean install is 100% the way to go. Vista now I see was garbage. You want none of Vista left behind at all.

    W7 has GPU accelration my laptop is 10 months old and its running so much faster than I thought possible.
