one of the windows update is causing problems when installing language packs that renders the installation to fail, currently unknown but after uninstalling ALL the updates I finally got them running, when there is an update that cannot be uninstalled, follow this guide to uninstalling them: Three ways to kill and avoid KB976002 (The Microsoft Browser Choice Screen) | Dalle & DXter

Maybe some people have already spotted this problem but yea make sure you install all the desired language packs before running windows update

Good rule of thumb is to install Service Packs before installing the other updates. I keep a copy of them on a flash drive for my system and when working on others. But yeah, I've noticed sometimes the updater itself will fail on everything; especially XP with only SP1.

Thanks for the link! Useful info there.

I just keep an image of my complete system with the drivers and factory provided utilities(S-bar, KLM, VGAOC in this case) before starting out to doing things to my computer (note that this is different from making the computer do things for me), and use 3rd party imaging software as me myself always go into trouble when trying to restore an image created by windows(volume shadow error), plus a USB stick for winPE booting, just for some good OS safety precautions, as raid 1 does restore with malware and viruses a clean install or a clean image is the more preferred method of OS security(not data)

Preemptive thinking; I like it! DeepFreeze is good for this but is overkill for a lot of users needs.

Hmm, this software does have in interesting feature but I think on the individual side, we'd much likely do a restore manually from an external media instead of within the system itself and also accidents will happen especially when loosing couple Gbs of downloaded files, takes a lot of time to redownload the files

The manual aspect of it is the downside by contrast. But arguably safer, nonetheless. :)
