For those that purchased the $15 Windows 8 upgrade

For those that purchased the $15 Windows 8 upgrade, was there an option to have a disc mailed in, and was there an expiration date for installing the upgrade?

 

I think the 15$ was for a DL but you can burn that to media. As far as the install, just like any other upgrade of Windows OS you can do that when you are ready. Thee are other threads here of the same concern too. I keep geting emails that I have till 2/28/2013 to get my $15 upgrade.

Off topic a bit this may artifically keep sales of Windows 8 up as some people may take advantage of this to keep the media aside for a possible later upgrade. I have even thought of doing the same but I do not want to contribute to artifically inflating the number of licenses out there being used...........

 

I know about the purchase expiration date, but I want to make sure that I will be able to install it in a year or two. You never know when Windows 8 may be necessary for whatever reason, so I'd like to buy it for $15 now (instead of $100 later) and be able to have it ready at any time with no installation expiration date.

 

Like any other update it SHOULD be good a year or two later. Like anything else there could be an issue or two that crops up but a call to M$ should resolve that as well. There is no time constraint with the EULA etc. that will limit you.

 

There was an option to add the disc for $15 and make the total cost a bit over $30, but there was no disc-only option, so I decided to just go with the 2GB download for $15.

 

Disc only option would have been to purchase a retail copy outright form a retailer or MS. As TANWare mentioned, you can probably copy the download to other media, but I'm not sure if Microsoft enforces some sort of protection on the file to prevent this.

Expiration on installation would have been outlined by Microsoft in the fine print, so if you don't see one, then there should be no installation expiration. You can contact their support to be sure; after all, you paid for it, so it would be a bummer if one day you were denied.

 

I loaded mine on a thumb drive and was even able to do a clean (non-upgrade) install with it.
