    Hi, can anyone recommend a decent free anti-virus software (Windows XP) ?

    Avast! is free too...the pro version is not, but the free version is great from what I hear! And the UI is very solid.

    I've been using Avast! here for the past couple of years as well. Used AVG before that, but I like some of the features of Avast better. If I recall correctly, I think the reason I switched was because AVG did not have an auto update feature at the time, though it does now. I may have to give it a spin again to see how/if it's improved.

    avg doesnt scan very thoroughly. sometimes it cant pick up some mess here and there. firewall and spyware removal softwares are a must combination. well if youre after a free virus software, avg is the one. its so popular but no support provided.
