I get corrupt icons on my desktop now and again, I dont know why.
I found this free app, and it fixed my corrupt icon in a second.
So give it a go, or save it in case it happens to you.
I have had Virus Total scan it and it shows as clean.

Just do this and avoid downloading any programs. Option two works, as does just deleting the .db file and rebooting.
Icon Cache - Rebuild - Windows 7 Forums -
I find it annoying myself. I am always using IconCache Rebuilder on our three PC's. It seems that in Windows XP it use to never get corrupted. It got worse in Windows Vista maybe lasting a month or two and now in Windows 7 it can't go a week without broken generic icons.
Such a common bug and still even after SP1 and all the patches it is ignored. -
Most of my icon issues usually boil down to renaming or deleting the source icon.

1)Delete the .db file
2)Open Task Manager
3)End 'explorer.exe' then go to File -> New Task -> explorer.exe.
Done. -
Sometimes you have to still just log off and log back on again after reloading explorer as if you don't not all the icons appear on the taskbar.
