PC Welt (German PC World magazine) is giving away free licenses for WinRAR 3.62 (supports multi-core CPUs and Windows Vista). Thanks Slickdeals.net

    1. Start here to request the license key file, enter your information, and select Anderes Land (Other Country)
    2. Once you receive a confirmation email, click on the second link and download the key file
    3. Download version 3.62 of the application and install
    4. Copy the key file you received in step 1 in the folder you installed the application in step 2
    (most commonly, "C:\Program Files\WinRAR\")

Note, registration site is under heavy traffic and may feel slow to respond. Please be patient.

I know this is a double post, but this deal is too good to pass up.

I disagree. WinRAR is way more powerful and easy to use than 7ZIP.

I've been using ALZip and it's a more robust tool. And as someone else mentioned WinRAR is free anyways and never expires. Oh and WinRAR is currently at version 3.71 anyways. :p

    . tried
    . gave up
. got the signon screen - after zillion tries - but the confirmation process kept bombed out and eventually a message saying that the email address has been used (?) and redirect to send another email to their support

    cheers ...

It's actually quite the opposite, 7zip is much faster than WinRAR and the simplicity of it is very high. Are you sure you're talking about 7zip and not some other zipping utility?

the only thing that winrar has compared to the rest is rar compression. i know that i will not be compressing files to rar format since the person on the receiving end would need a rar extractor.

    7zip is free and simple.

Lol... I got the screens after 5 or so tries. WinRAR for me is just easier to use than 7-ZIP.

Also chuck in the fact that 7zip is better at compressing. (Ie can compress more into a smaller package)

    Hi.

just received the email, it`s a link to download the key

The key is a "rarreg.key" that you copy to the WinRAR install directory.

    All done

I copied all the German text into babel-fish an online language translator, as i could not make heads or tails of it.

    Thanks

    John.
