    I am sure free software exists, but I am not aware of any...

    As an alternative you can use the default IE content advisor.

    To enable this open IE and go to:

    Tools...
    Internet Options...
    Click on the "Content" tab...
    The top box will be labeled Content Advisor.

    Enable this and configure the options that you want.


    I don't know how well this works, and it would only
    work of IE, but it should hold you over until you find
    a better solution.

    I've tried CyberSitter and ContentProtect with about the same results. They both do a good job of blocking information you do not want your children to see. The biggest problem with both of these programs is they sometimes interfere with other software and functionality. At least once a week, we have to reboot our computer (winXP pro) a couple times to get internet access because ContentProtect is blocking traffic. It is a little annoying.

    Can the ISP prevent adult sites from being accessed without having to purchase software?

    Yeah, I think charter (isp) can block adult sites but that's not what i'm looking for. I basically want to block all sites except 8 or so.
