    for students at certain schools.

MSDNAA within the last couple of days released Win7 Pro for download.

If you are a Comp Sci student or even maybe EE, see if you can get MSDNAA access. You'll get two copies of Vista Business, XP Pro x64, XP Pro x86, and two copies of Win 7 Pro, along with isos for everything, absolutely free.

This might help you if you don't know if you have MSDNAA access:

Oh for the record, I graduated in June '09 with a comp sci degree from UC Irvine, and for some reason I still have MSDNAA access 2 months later.

And to reiterate, you get a completely legit CD key and iso from microsoft.

Hmm win 7 pro is not listed in the software list for my college. I'll contact the administrator to add it to the list, and maybe the guys from the CIS dept as backup.

you should be able to, you just need to figure out how to get a login/password.

at uc irvine, they just made it the same as our school login and password.

UofT is sort of complicated..you need to fill out forms manually and submit them to the right people.

If you attend a local Win7 launch party MSFT is handing out Win7 Ultimate to everyone. Some of teh larger parties will have a limited number of Server2008 R2 copies as well.

"4" (yes, four. Separate keys for English/French and separate keys for x86/x64. All interchangeable) Windows 7 Professional keys for $20 if you're a "student". Then again, we're all "students" of life, are we not?

Maybe you could recoup your costs somehow...and it'll end up being free if you catch my drift.

Quick question, I'm downloading Windows 7 at the moment from MSDNAA, what can I do for the drivers? Will the latest drivers from the computer manufacturer (for Vista) work?

You can request for your department to add it. However, it's simply easier to pay the $19 for the ACM and thus, 2 product keys, and get access to more programs than are generally available through a school's MSDNAA account, as they make strict deals with Microsoft on what they personally offer from the list of available software.

Because Microsoft wants them to develop for the latest operating systems with the latest software.

Is a history or english major's job going to drastically change because a new OS came out? Probably not.

Yes Vista drivers will work fine.

If not Windows Update will use your Hardware ID to search the internet for drivers. It actually worked for my TV tuner and mouse, which was very convenient.

Apparently environmental science students are special too, because I also have access to MSDN-AA (Home, Pro, and Ultimate) as well as Microsoft's DreamSpark program. That's how I got Windows Server 08. :D

Also a heads up! If you are an IEEE member (including student member), you have the same access to msdnaa as you would from a university. I got my Win7 Professional x64 edition last week. It's RTM. They also have Ultimate, but it is only RC.

Edit: Sorry for the repost. I read up the screen after posting, but msdnaa is a great place to try new tools for engineering/science students.

He's referring to Ultimate RC, which everyone has.

Depends on your school. The only way to know is to ask the admin of the MSDNAA website of your school. Some only offer it to CS/Engineering students whereas some offer it to ALL.

It's full version of 7 Professional as well, your admin probably didn't update the page yet. Just send off an email and they'll have it up. Are you a RFDer (you should if you're a Canadian!)? If not, read this thread:

    http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=776815

I think UBC is somewhere in there (that is, I'm assuming you go to UBC but there's info on practically all major schools in there).

This is not the same as the MSDN-AA thing you get for joining and paying a $19 membership fee to join ACM.

With that you get 4-free keys + access to a bunch of software, as long as your a university student your go to go.
