I really love the look of a black and white photo with just one object in the photo that is colour, and I would love to be able to do this myself. Anyone know of a program, that is free, on which i can do this. Perhaps an internet download... I would love to be able to do this with my own photos...

Paint.NET is great for relatively simple things. And there's GIMP if you're feeling a little bit more ambitious.

    get Picasa2 from google

it is a great program I think everyone should have, best photo organization program i have seen, especially for free, and all the basic fixes tweaks are available in this program and easy to apply.

not a replacement for photoshop but a very simple way to achieve what you want i think.

I second both the GIMP and Picasa. The former for more complicated stuff and the latter for tasks like the black and white conversion mentioned.

Two steps to do exactly what you ask: Download a free program off of the Internet, and read the tutorial that describes how to do what you want using the free program.

    1. As has been mentioned, Gimp is a free photo editing program. Here is where you can download it plus the Runtime Enmironment: link

    2. Here is the tutorial for Selective Colorization: link

GIMP is the best free Photo software.

But for something as simple as changing color or fixing minor stuff, then I recommend Kodak EasyShare Software(click me) It's great for auto fixing stuff and doing simple tasks.

I am using GIMP and Picassa right now to do most of my photo editing, the only thing I find myself missing from Corel Photo Album is the Panorama settings, but with a freeware Panorama program (Auto Stitch) I've got that mostly covered (Auto Stitch also works better than Photo Albums Panorama program).

On the topic of photo-editing software, I am looking for a program that will allow me to easily crop photos, and easily rezise photos. That's it. It doesn't have to be free, but it should work well and not eat up system resources.

    Any suggestions?
