I need some 'experienced" help on a problem when I tried to install a fresh version of Windows 7 on an Acer One D250 netbook which had suffered a corrupted OS and restore partition. Mind you, the restore partition and the original OS partition have been wiped, deleted, re-partitioned and formatted.
That's the problem tho, Windows 7 setup routine got that far, listed the partition(s) that were created and formatted as ""PRIMARY" but didn't register the partiton(s) as "SYSTEM" or "ACTIVE" for when I clicked on NEXT, it says that "a system partition cannot be found". First time in a Windows 7 install I ever encountered this after partitioning and formatting the partition. ??? Is it something about the Acer One hdd? Has anyone run across this. Please don't waste time describing Acer's restore utilities as they require the restore partition and I am trying to fresh complete install the Windows 7 disk I bought, and then apply driver installs later for networking and such.
It says exactly: "Setup was unable to create a new "system partition" or locate an existing "system partition". See the setup log for more information."
Now I have no idear how to check the "setup log" nor why it is denying the formatted and shown primary partition. In all other installs on normal desktops and laptops I have done, it has simply gone on to install windows 7.
The netbook is more than out of warranty so I need reliable help via experienced computer heads. Thanks in advance for any help, patience and fortitude in sticking with this problem and fix with me.

The only time I had any problems installing Windows XP, Vista, or Seven was because of a bad hard drive.
I would suggest to identify your HDD make. You should be able to identify it through the BIOS menu. Then go to the manufacturer website and download their diagnostic software and scan the drive for errors.
You can also use the Ultimate Boot CD or Hiren Boot CD. They content several generic tools that will help you scan the HDD for errors.
As for the installation I would suggest to install Windows 7 Starter simply because the CPU and the GPU in this netbook is not powerful enough. I've seen people installing the Ultimate version on netbooks with the Atom N270 which is a complete nonsense as some of the features in this version like Media Center and XP mode will not work. -
I encountered similar issue couple weeks back. Tried installing via USB stick and usb ODD, didn't work. Finally got it to work by starting installation on a another laptop and then switched HDD back after first boot.

Naton, thanks for that tip...it is certainly something to ponder.
Yet, a viable cure? To go through the expense of another OS? How much would it cost? I will have to look, but I don't if my friend who owns the laptop would like the results as far as dollars and cents for a new OS.
I will keep you posted...sorry for the delays as I have not been able to put my energies into the fix as I wished to and just now have returned to ponder my options and try the tips given.
Thanks one and all.
Here goes..............................
PS: "KLF's" comment: That is sure using the noggin' for adaptable venues of options. smiles
Good sharp thinking process there.
Haven't the extra machine though to try it on. -
Have you tried to load up the formatting menu with Intel drivers?

Might help but if not then you might have a defective HDD.
