Hey guys I just ordered a sager and I wanted to be ready for when it gets here. I am trying to make a list of things to do that will ensure my pc is safe, up to date and as fast as possible. Below is a list of some of the things I will be doing. Please add any other things that are important. I will be running Vista x64 Home Pre and the laptop was ordered from powernotebooks.

    install and update virus protection
    update video card drivers
    update windows
set windows to be configured for best performance
    ...

I always make an image of the drive before I even boot to the OS. It's nice to have a way of doing a restore that is much faster than using their restore/recovery methods.

I second this point. It is often overlooked but is one of the most important things you can do. It can potentially save you hours of re installation time if you do a system image of the initial clean factory install state. I recommend Drive Snapshot or Acronis True Image.

I suggest that you do one factory image and then another after you have installed everything. I store these on an external sata 2.5 USB hdd.

Like McGrady said. Install a fresh copy of your Vista HomePremium and update all drivers. That will help a lot.
I also suggest you to use Auslogics BoostSpeed, disable Vista defragment and do it manually with this program. I use it, no problems. I like to keep my registry ect. clean.

My OS' is usually running around 63-64 processes.

I will P.M you some links check those out... ;)

Feel free to ask any questions, cheeers...

What's the point of disabling defrag if you don't use other defragging tool? Vista only defragment your computer when it's idle.

When only runs on schedule if the computer is idle or else it'll defrag some other time.

I have disabled it and like it that way, I use Auslogics BoostSpeed to run defrag. You can have it enabled but I will NOT!

If you selecet your model here, you will get the new drivers.
    http://www.sagernotebook.com/information.php?information_id=7
But I suggest you to download the new drivers (if there is someone) and install them after a clean/fresh install of your OS. This will perform best and you will get rid of all that bloatware. - Don't know how much Sager have of this, but I can promis you that Toshiba has enough of it ;)
PS: Did you got my P.M ?

No. From a fresh install of Vista, and you open the defrag utility, by default it will run on Wednesday at 12 if I remember correctly or something like that. Other than that once a week scheduled defrag then it will defrag when idle.
