So my hard drive died yesterday on my Vostro 1400 and Dell is sending me a brand new hard drive to replace mine.

We'll I'm trying to find guides on how to install vista and everything since i've never actually done this before.

I've tried searching and googling, but not having much luck right now.

    Anyone help would be appreciated.

I know how to physically put in the new hard drive.

Do i just pop in the Vista CD, turn the computer on after i put the hard drive in and follow the instructions?

BTW these are the CD's that came with the laptop.

    -Dell Vista CD
    -Dell Drivers and Utilities
    -Dell webcam manager
    -Dell Media Direct

I know i'll probably need the vista CD and Drivers, but do I need the dell webcam manager to make it work? How about the Media Direct CD, do I need that for the volume buttons and such to work?

Taaadaaaaaa!!! See Clean Install Below. If you dont have MediaDirect, just ignore that part and throw the reinstallation OS CD in to start.

PM me if you need any assistance.

If no MD3, ignore steps 1-4 and 8-9. Just throw that ole Vista disk in and reinstall the drivers.

Yes they might and if they did they are not very likely to look in this generic Windows forum. Since a OS install process is VERY VERY specific to a particular Make and Model of laptop, it make more sense to post that sort of thing in the proper forum here. That's where folks will go first anyway.
