Well I think I might have a problem.. I Want to do a fresh install of xp but have no xp cd.. I do not think the computer came with one either. It has the D drive partition for recovery but that includes all the crap the computer came with are there any ways around this?

Not really. You can install the recovery partition over your current one and restore it to factory defaults or you can re-order the XP cd/buy it off eBay. Most of the cost of buying OS's are the licenses, so the cd alone shouldn't come out to more than $20 or so.

If your using a legal licence, such as the one that comes with your laptop, I think it would be legal to use a torrent to download the file, or borrow someone else's but use YOUR cd key to activate the OS.

If you study at a university or college, it might be worth taking a trip to the IT department, to find out if you could borrow an XP cd.

Alternatively, call up your notebook manafacturer, tell them recovery CD does not work, and ask them to send an XP disc to you.
