Ok so my roomie has been having trouble with his computer. It won't sleep, (it'll just turn off the monitor) it won't install Vista SP1 either (don't ask why he' hasn't installed it now......) His hard drive is known to be bad and he plans on sending it into the depot later.
Here's his machine:
Inspiron 1525
Windows Vista-No service packs
2 GB of RAM
Intel Pentium Dual Core processor
Any advice?

Advice? Yes, tell us what when he tries to install SP1? We can't read minds and unless we know what happens we can't begin to tell what the solution might be.

 Yeah I realize I may have went across this the wrong way. Here goes.
He'll start the install process and everything is fine, it's when Windows Update restarts the computer that it states that it's "reverting changes" and returns to its pre SP1 state. It then resumes working ok...except when it freezes. He's gone to his track meet but i should be able to get more info from him later tonight.
