I would like to ask. If I have purchased 32bit version of Home Premium, came to y Dell XPS, and I would like to install Vista 64bit (32bit came with the computer). Do I have to buy a new licence, can I "trade it in"? how can I switch?

With an OEM liscense, you can't "trade in" for new 64 bit media, however if you know someone with an x64 disc you can reinstall using your existing product key and it will work fine.

Read the Clean Vista install WITH NO ACTIVATION thread in the HP forum:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228
Use a 64-bit Vista Anytime disc instead of a 32-bit. I did this to clean install 64-bit Vista Home Premium onto my HP notebook. The same process should work on Dell, etc. Lateral moves from 32-bit Home Premium to 64-bit Home Premium and such are allowed.

Yup 32bit to 64bit isnt changing versions of Vista. Its just changing architectures, meaning everything else will be the same. Visually 32bit and 64bit is the same, theres only a slight performance boost for 64bit because more resource can be utilized

You current licence will work for both 32bit or 64bit of the same version (basic, home premium, ultimate)

No, you can't download it. Try requesting the media from your laptop manufacturer.

Tried to order online on the link you provide. They are asking for the key code of your current vista. When i enter mine... it seems to reject it. Would the key code on the sticker below my laptop is what they are asking for ?

Your key code is probably an OEM code. You need to contact your computer's manufacturer.

Unforunately that link only works if you have a retail version of Vista.

64bit disc can be hard to get a hold of. You could legally download it before but i think they closed that down. Check orev's clean installation stick in the HP section
