    Hello all!

I recently purchased a new computer (the Inspiron 15R SE), after lurking this forum intensely while considering what to buy.

While the computer has been working very well for me so far, recently, when Windows has attempted automatic updating, the computer will just remain on "Preparing to Configure Windows Updates" display, and never move on. After letting it continue doing this for a full night, I restarted in safe mode and disabled automatic updating.

After using this forum in the decision to buy, it seemed like the right kind of place to come to with questions like this. Does anyone have any suggestions or work arounds in order to install updates without this happening? Any information I could provide to make the question more clear?

    Thank you

It happened to me as well a couple of times. I solved it by installing the windows updates one by one, and restart the machine after each update.

Not sure what was the cause but eventually it worked out.

tjcoady Welcome to the forum, you are in the right place. Personally I always run windows updates without any other programs running (of course I leave anti virus on). Yukinok25 gives a good work around also. Just out of curiosity are you running the factory windows image or have you reloaded windows "fresh"?
