I'm running windows XP pro on my compaq r3000 laptop. For some reason every time that I turn it on everything works fine except I can't click on anything. The pointer moves around on the screen I can pull up the windows tab with the windows key, but I can't cycle throught the items or click on any of them or any items on the desktop. I can pull up the task manager but can't click on anything in there either. I can't go to shut it down or restart it so I just have to turn it off by holding the power key down. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

can you go on safe mode? then uninstall your nod32 there.

Sounds like a deadlock situation betweeen Nod32 and XP.

Definately go into Safe Mode. You might nto be able to uninstall Nod32 from there because the windows installer won't run in safe mode, however, if you uncheck Nod32 from msconfig, it won't run on startup, which will allow you to determine if this truly is the cause (which seems very likely from what you've told us) and then you can uninstall it from normal windows.

Well this morning when I truned it back on it came on fine and everything worked, I'm running a virus scan with norton right now, and as long as it doesn't freeze up again I'll try and fix nod32, and if it does I'll try safe mode. Thanks for the help guys.

Bleh...you have more than one AV installed?

My recommendation is to get rid of your current installation of nod32 and norton right away. Then reinstall either one or the other. Or neither...my experience is that AV's will cause more problems than they solve.

I concur. Nuke Norton at a minimum. That piece of crap has caused more problems that I've had to fix on my family's computers than I care to remember, from slow document opening to just abysmal computer operation in general. Never install multiple firewalls or antivirus packages, especially those "all in one" things like Norton.

Turns out it wasn't the nod32 causing the problems, the problem occurs when I try and must my sound using the external mute button on the side of the computer, or if i try and double click the speaker icon on the bottom right of my taskbar. I did a virus scan today with norton and it didn't turn up anything so any suggestions would be very helpful.
