    Hi,

I want to be able to do a full windows OEM install on the laptop I buy,
own the full OEM windows install disk and not use a restore disk.

Can anyone give me feed back on what laptop companies to stay away from or use?
My girlfriend has a Compaq laptop that we can't seem to reload and I don't want to buy a new laptop and find myself in that position.

    Thanks

I'm a bit confused on what you are wanting. Are you wanting manufacturers that allow you to use OEM discs instead of restore discs?

I would think that as long as the XP disc is a generic OEM version and not specific to any manufacturer, you should be able to do a clean install using it on any laptop. If you received the OEM disc with a laptop or desktop, then it probably is specific to that brand and you can not use that disc on any other brand.

There are OEM XP discs that you can buy online or at some computer stores which will install on any computer as long as it meets the XP requirements.

I think your asking two questions here. I have not had any problems with my Compaq laptop(4 months...wow the time flys). When did your g/f get the laptop? Now that HP owns Compaq I think things are improved. Just my two cents. :)

I want a company that sends me the OEM full install disks and not just a restore disk, and her older compaq laptop only can be loaded by a restore disk that came with the computer, not a windows OS OEM disk.

If I buy, say, HP or Dell, will they send me the OEM windows OS disk, and can I skip the bloatwear buy doing a fresh windows install?

Yes, that is why alot of people order those discs...there is nothing worse than having to reformat and then remove all the bloatware. :( It is alot easier to just do the OEM install of windows. :)

it sounds like you're doing something wrong with your sister's computer. there's absolutely no reason why you couldn't install ANY version of ANY OS on the computer regardless of the type of disc it is; the only exceptions being that (1) you're trying to install a dell branded version (or some other non-compaq branded version) or (2) you're hardware specs aren't up to snuff and the install ****s out or (3) you're trying to install an incompatible OS like OS X.

dell will send you a full version of the OS if you ask for it.
