When I first got my laptop, it had windows aero color scheme running, but now it has vista basic, plain light blue windows, NOT aero! I have it, I need aero back, but when I try to change it, it's not there. What happened?

I just reinstalled vista last night and had no aero either, i never had this happen before on a re instillation. The problem was my out dated or lack of graphics drivers. If you had it and lost it, it probably isn't graphic drivers, but you can give it a shot anyway.

Try running the WEI Test, then try enabling Aero.

Typically, you have to run WEI under Vista after clean installation to get Aero to work. Although, if you use a OEM reinstall disk, it should also auto-install drivers so Aero might work on first boot there.

Right click your desktop, click personalize, then windows colour and appearance. Then make sure enable transparency is ticked.

nope, I don't even have that. It's just a box with 5 themes, it should be 6, including aero.

    try this.

Open up explorer, click "system properties" and then choose "advanced system settings" on the left. This will bring you to the "system properties" window. Click on the button for settings under performance. Which radio button is selected? If it's custom, make sure "enable transparent glass" is selected.

See if that helps you out
