Has anyone managed to get their GTX 970M working with After effects?

I have a P650RE with a GTX 970M (6gb variant) and I'd really like to use it for rendering in After Effects. Unfortunately there's no official support for this card, but there are a number of workarounds posted on the internet which don't seem to work?

    I've tried...

    - Adding the card to the list of supported cards in AE.
    - I've tried enabling unsupported GPU's in AE preferences.
    - I've tried replacing the nvidia optix.1.dll file with the latest version.

To gauge whether the GPU is being used while rendering a project in AE, I use GPUz. Despite my best efforts, the GPU 'Load' always sits at 0% while rendering :(

Hopefully there's a clever GTX 970 user out there that's found a way to make this card work with AE.
