Hi all, new to the forums you can prolly guess by my lack of posts.

    I got a problem, I have a laptop:

    :amd64: 3000+
    512mb DDR RAM
    40 GiG HDD
    ATi Radeon 64mb Video
    Windows XP Home SP1a

The problem i have is when playing certain games. I will be playing ok without problems then all of a sudden the game will slooooooooooowww down as if in slow motion then after a minute it will continue at the normal speed. I done some digging and found out that Power Now! was cauing it by changing the CPU speeds. Further reading suggested i change my power settings to always on. I did so but i am still experiancing the problem.

So far it does it on:

    Deus Ex 2
    Ground Control 2
    Prince of Persia Warrior Within
    Pariah
    Farcry

Also i noticed that my CPU never reaches 1800MHz but always 1795MHz anyone think that has got anything to do with it? I am at a lost end and i don't really wanna shell out £600 for a PC.

Ny help would be great :) :)
    Pete

You probrably need more ram. Is it on battery or plugged in?

correction on SPecs, i only got SP1a

I don't think its the ram, if low RAM was the cause then the game would run choppy but it doesn't is just goes in slow motion, its on the mains but the batter is plugged into the laptop. Other people have had problems like this, Something to do with most games running by the processor speed and if that speed changes the gameplay slows down to wait for it or something like that.

well..on my desktop pentium 4 2.53 GHz...with 64 MB video by intel...i think 845G...lol...pariah could barely work..and went in slow motion like u were saying..and so did the Prince of Persia Warrior Within demo i downloaded to try to play...i don't think that the 64 MB video card u have is enough for those 2 games..but i'm not 2 sure about the others...and did u try to change the settings of ur computer to always have full powered CPU power??..like turn off all the other options to maximize performance or battery life or w/e

I set the power options to always on and checkd the cpu speed with AMD's PowerNow! dashboard, it showed 100% but the cpu never hit 1800MHz just 1795MHz. When i use CrystalCPUID it says that the CPU is underclocked by 0.28%

I play other games like Call of Duty and need for speed underground 2 with the highest settings (cept for AA) and they run fine, no problems at all. If i wanted to play Deus Ex2, what i used to do was open msconfig and disable all non-window services and all startup programes then restart the laptop. All the slow motion went away, it was the same with Farcry and Pariah. But that solution don't work no more :(

I have been trying to disable Cool and Quiet but there is no option in the bios :(
