    Vs. XP too :)

    Very good read....

    Edit: Quick Summary :)

"Gamers reluctant to upgrade from Windows XP fear not. You finally have a reason to upgrade. If I was running Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 though, I wouldn’t be in a rush to pick up Windows 7. It’s definitely an improvement over Vista, but unless you plan on running SLI or CrossFire, it’s probably not worth Microsoft’s asking price. After all, it is fundamentally just a highly polished extension of Vista. Instead I’d spend that money on a better graphics card or CPU.

This time the final product does live up to the hype. By taking the features of Vista, improving the interface, and combining the best attributes of Windows XP, namely its performance and stability, Microsoft has put together a solid OS that should please the most discriminating hardware enthusiast or gamer. In some ways, this may just be Microsoft's best OS yet"

Excellent stuff! Looks like I should seriously consider SLI in my next gaming laptop in the future, that's for sure.

    nice article.

quick summary would have been nice.

    summary:

xp last, vista second, win7 small first.

and yes, the article states clearly "you never have a second chance for a first impression". which is sad, as, right from the start, i knew (and everyone who read the WDDM specs), vista will kick xp's *** in terms of gaming performance if the drivers work.

but they didn't, and resulted in a very bad impression (together with all the other stuff).

finally, dx10 and the rewritten graphics driver stack show what they where about (combined with the fact that there are much less gpu-driver related bluescreens nowadays, which is of much higher importance.. and the less bluescreens are, while the gpu gets used much more than ever, now.. thanks to aero).

Burnout works fine on Windows 7, I get about 60 fps on high at 1680 X 1050 res.

    LOL!

Windows 7 currently used the DirectX 11. So, the graphic quality and maybe the performance will be the greatest.
Windows Vista currently used the DirectX 10. The graphic quality is better than Windows XP. However, for some reason(complicated), the performance is weaker than Windows XP. Yet, rumour(maybe is true because Wikipedia said that) said Windows Vista will have DirectX 11 support soon. So, the performance might be improve.
Windows XP was the ancient one, used DirectX 9. The graphic quality is awful especially with lower-end graphic cards. The awfulness increase gradually.
The performance is better than Windows Vista due to some reason(maybe light resources?). In addition, GPUs drivers supports for Windows XP is getting lesser and lesser.

Well, I would say Windows 7 is the best currently. Windows XP is hopeless. Windows Vista is still OK. Well, 64bit OS will be better than 32bit OS.

    @Undertaxxx,
XP is 2001. Wikipedia claims that it is, link here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_xp
