Okay so let us guys make some conclusion..this thread is for us discussing not fighting..
I think Steve Jobs & Bill Gates will be remembered as the most remarkable guys of the modern era...they define the world we live in... although Bill Gates may not be on the creative side but he brought computing to every corner of earth (almost)
Steve Jobs on the other hand actually gave life to GUI when it was rejected...
both need each other indirectly...
But I have to say...
Steve Jobs is a real rockstar ....& he is cool too rite?

Btw, although many people view Jobs as being cool, I find it pretty lame. There is nothing worse than an aging man trying to act young and be cool. -

Impossible/illegal to tweak, you had to choose which manufacturer was best to lock-in with.
I agree: monopoly has freed customers from the burden of making that choice.
The future of IT in the free world, if there is one, has to be open source.
Because information is power. And "We The People" cannot trust power in a black box. -

Your experience does not equal the rest of the world. -
when you use mac you are more restrained. But with windows you are free to roam around. When did this thread move to mac vs windows fight?
-
Is it Microsoft's fault that software developers choose Windows as their platform of choice? No. Microsoft didn't make a monopoly, it was the Non-MS software developers who did it, but developing their applications to be compatible with Windows.
I see no monopoly here. A monopoly would be one sole OS to choose from. We have Windows, OS X, and Linux. Whose fault is it that outside software developers choose one OS over the other? Certainly not Microsoft's. The only thing MS had to do with it was making a great OS.

Bill Gates will go down in history for revolutionizing the way we use computers, like it or not.
If you guys don't like Windows, use something else and stop whining. And if that doesn't work, try developing your own OS....good luck. -
Actually i study business....by UK standards... monopoly is when one company under a registered name has more than 50% market share...its 50% by business definitions but pls note that no one can file antitrust lawsuit against you if you have market share>50% ...
Monopoly is okay but misusing it to prevent entry of competitors is unethical. -
This forum rocks!!! i am able to get into discussions which most of my friends wont even understand....guess i am developing a strong passion for the world of computers!!

The issues with OSX are because it is a proprietary software that the programmers will not allow to be open.
On the other hand, the issues with Vista surfaced because it was released to early and developers did not have the chance properly create drivers for it. The majority of which have been fixed now.
At no point did I say Vista was perfect, and I was solely comparing it with OSX. -
I'm going to divert from all the OS and monopoly talk.
-
people bash microsoft coz they are insecure and try to make themselves feel better by having limited software and paying a truck load of money for something that cant do half as much as vista. *cough* Mac OS *cough*
-
Again, it's not Microsoft's fault that they created an amazing OS, Windows, that a large portion of software programmers chose as their platform.
I mean, if any one of you became a successful CEO of a company, which then gained a huge market share in a certain market...how would you feel about being bashed and blamed as being a monopoly ALL because you were successful and good at what you do?
It's all nonsense. -
MS windows is a mass market product...its built for masses so it has to be slightly inferior in quality than Mac..Mac is premium..
Its like Lambhorghini & Toyota ...although not as much difference in performance..Windows is close to OSX in the race -

Lol... It's going to be Vista vs. OSX all over again.
-
In terms of useability, compatibility and flexibitlity, Windows will always win.
-
thats why the world uses windows...
Gates turned the tables???
