Is there a program that is free, simple to use, and allow you to program your mouse buttons to execute single key presses?

I'm wondering for older games I'm using that don't recognize my mouse buttons 4 and 5 and I use a KVM switch, so can't use the Logitech Setpoint software because it doesn't see the mouse as a Logitech mouse but as a generic mouse through the KVM.

Seems like it should be simple to do but my searches haven't rendered anything.

This site has a program that allows you to remap what your mouse buttons do: http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/XMouseButtonControl.htm

However, since you are connecting through a KVM that don't recognize the extended 4th and 5th mouse buttons, it won't do you any good no matter what software you use. The computers on the otherside of the KVM don't actually see any output from the 4th and 5th mouse buttons if I understand correctly. In this case, you'll either have to hack the KVM (if that is even possible) or buy a better KVM that can handle extend mouse buttons.

That's the thing, modern games detect the extra mouse buttons just fine. Older games don't, not an issue with the KVM, just older games not suporting the extra mouse buttons. And the Logitech Setpoint software doesn't detect it as a Logitech mouse because it's going through the KVM switch.

I'd just like to program the extra buttons to use as keyboard keys.

Thanks for the link! +1 Rep
