    Is there a way in Vista to type German letters without changing to a full German keyboard. This was possible in XP by using the international keyboard and using e.g. shfit/quotation mark to make an umlaut.

    You should be able to do this in a program such as MS Word, but I can't say for Windows Vista at large.

    Follow the following...
    Start
    Control Panel
    Regional and Language Option
    Keyboards and Language (Tab)
    Change Keyboards
    Click - Add
    German (Germany) - Keyboard - German
    Click - OK
    (Language Bar to change your preferences)
    (Advanced Key Settings to change it to CTRL+SHIFT or ALT+SHIFT to swap between EN and DE)

    Hoffentlich hilft dir das hier und du kannst Deutsch verstehen? Haha. :D

    Vielen Dank, aber ich wollte die deutschen Tastatur-Art vermeiden, ich bin zu an der amerikanischen gewöhnt. Ich möchte die Möglichkeit haben, wie bei Windows XP, deutsche Buchstaben auf einer amerikanischen Tastaur zu tippen.

    Das kannst du doch machen mit dieser Settings. Die selber Keyboard egal ob da wirklich ne' üöä steht oder nicht, beim tippen wird die keyboard layout auf Deutsch eingestellt. Dachte das wolltest du doch machen? :)

    aber ich glaube, er will einfach die Tastatur setting nicht ändern, sondern einfach auf die gleiche Tastatur, die öäü schreiben mit bestimmte Taste kombinationen.

    Aso. Um well. Aber diese ALT+SHIFT um zwischen Englisch und Deutsch zuändern ist doch viel einfacher also kombination zu errinern.

    ä - ALT + 0228 so oder was?? :confused:

    das ist auch eine lösung mit alt + nummer... wo wir können alle Symbol schreiben solange wir die nummer wissen... so habe ich auch gedacht, aber ich glaube... das ist nicht nür die Lösung... mit bestimmte kombination zum shift + + u ergibt in diese "forum reply" fall... können wir auch die äöü schreiben...

    muss nochmal gucken... aber zumindest haben wir eine Lösung... :)

    What's "Autohotkey"? :confused:

    The only reason I wrote in German is cause I assumed the person would understand German easier? Anyway, I've lost track anyway to what the person wants to do with their keyboard. As I can see there is two solutions to enter Germany characters.

    1) Set-up the keyboard layout XP/Vista and change ALT+SHIFT to change between layouts without physically changing the keyboard itself.

    2) Just keep your layout / language and use the Character Map and key combinations such as ALT+0404 <-random number to input your characters.

    I see... but that just overcomplicates the whole thing in my opinion. Have to grab another software and program it while you can just do that all under Windows easily.
