Hello,
On my Teclast tablet with an unlocked BIOS, there is a setting called "Low Power S0 Idle", which is basically Modern Standby. By default it is disabled, but upon enabling it seems to be quite an interesting feature.
As a student, I regularly open and close the lid of my laptop - when I close it I want/need it to go into a low power mode, but I need it to be basically instant-on when I re-open the lid. Modern Standby gives that.
Unfortunately my system does not appear to be properly optimized for Modern Standby. Here are a few numbers:
Idle, lid closed: -1.5W drain
Lid closed, Low power idle S0 sleep: 1.0-1.3W
Conventional S3 sleep: <200mW
As you can see, modern standby on my system is significantly more power-hungry than it should be. One thing that is interesting is that the CPU Package enters C9 in Modern standby only and will not enter C9 under any other circumstance. 0% of the system is in DRIPS, as shown by the Pwore report by powecfg

The system spends 0% of its operating state in a 'low power state'... The main culprit is highlighted in red...
And upon expanding:
![]()
I have no idea what devices these are. For every single Modern Standby session, these two devices are the culprit. Consistently they are active 98-100% of the time. Does anybody have any idea what might be preventing the system from entering a low power idle state?
As for now I've reverted to S3 sleep, but even the 1-2second resume time is too slow. I've reinstalled windows, reinstalled every driver, but no luck in fixing the issue.
Also a side question: Does anybody have ANY idea to let the package enter C9/C10? I KNOW my laptop supports C9, because it enters said state during modern standby. I can see this because of the 0x631 counter in RW-Everything. I've even seen the i7-8750H enter C10 on a few Dell laptops. Like I said, I have a fully unlocked BIOS but changing anything doesn't seem to help.

AFAIK there is no such think a unlocked BIOS. That is something hacked and not advised to do or tell others about.

Plenty of people flash custom/modded BIOSes on well-known product brand/lines. Plenty of small Chinese manufacturers, (such as mine, Teclast) ship their laptops with their BIOSes unlocked.joluke, Vasudev and katalin_2003 like this. -
