I tried to search the forums but I couldn't find an answer so I'm hoping you can all help me with this issue.
My laptop has two hard drives. The first has XP installed, and the second, I just recently installed Vista. Now that I'm starting to get used to Vista, I want to take my original XP drive out (not reformat it or anything) and install a new hard drive. The problem is that the XP drive does the Windows selection thing at the start-up. Setting the Vista hard drive as the primary hard drive gives me an error message and says my drive is missing an operating system. What should I do? The way I would like to dual boot is through BIOS, but I made the mistake of installing Vista before disabling my xp drive.

Your just need to insert your Vista disc and do a repair install. That should fix the bootloader
-
Remove the XP drive then follow these instructions:

thanks guys. I'll give it a shot
-
Can the same be done to the XP hard drive to remove the boot startup dialogue or should I change than in XP (if it's possible?)
-
If so, you can either log into the recovery console via the Windows XP disc and type the command 'fixmbr' or do a repair installation. -
Thanks for the tip. I'll try it tonight.
