I can see home photo thumbnail previews just fine in file explorer.

But a stock icon in a blank placeholder shows up in every photo editing app I downloaded from ms store. The only exception is the photo app where my jpg photos don't show up at all.

I tried going into file explorer and changing the viewing option to not have a check mark next to the box that says show icon instead of thumbnail but that didn't do anything?

Any idea how to fix this?

I have a samsung ativ book 7 ultra book originally with win 8 upgraded to win 8.1. Don't know if problem existed prior to upgrade as I upgraded right after I bought it. Also upgraded hard drive to crucial m500 msata 480 gb ssd but don't think that was the cause.

    Thanks

    icon instead of thumbnail.jpg

Here's an image of what I see. Hope someone can help me figure this out. It's a huge deal to me. thanks.

I'm not sure how to make my above image bigger but if you click on it, you should be able to see an enlarged version. As shown, I get icon placeholders instead of thumbnail previews.
