My laptop came with Vista Ultimate, but only 32 bit. This is a major problem since I have 4GB of RAM. Is there any way to get 64 bit Ultimate for free?

Yeah I was looking for a legal way. So I'm guessing I'm stuck with 32 unless I pay for 64? That's not cool.

why on earth is this considered pirating?? i should like to know. Its just the ISO file, not a pirated license key or anything.

It's pirated software. So it's still pirating.

If you're going to install a new OS(which is what you'd be doing), why not go with Win 7. You can still get the Release Candidate and find legal keys everywhere. It'll work till next June/July and give you plenty of time to save up for a legal copy.

You could call HP and request that they send you the 64-bit disc. Dell did this for my Latitude... I don't know what HP's policy is.

Most OEMs will send you a 64bit disc upon request. At least Dell does.

    The best option IMO.

The only option that fits him really.

Though if you don't mind the change, why not actually go for Windows 7?

You can phone HP and even try to snag a free copy of that, though it may take a long time.

Cause Windows 7 costs money. Snaggin an x64 edition of Ultimate might not cost him anything.

Exactly. I love 7 personally, used it on my old nx9420 since the beta came out early this year... But $170(OEM)/$220(upgrade)/$320(full) for 7 Ultimate is a big price to pay for just an OS. Vista is good enough. Thanks for the tip on calling HP though, I'll try it out.
