You'll still be able to install it anytime you want, it just won't be available for download then.

    Check HERE for more info.

Uh, no you can't unless they have made a major change in their operations in the past couple of months. The files you download will all need to "phone home" to the GAOTD site to get the proper authorization. If you save off one of their installers and latter try to use it, when it "phones home" no one will answer and the install won't work.

That has caused issues with folks who got stuff from them, latter had to do a system restore or recovery and then were unable to reinstall the software.

This was how it was a few months back, and I have not rechecked to see if it still holds or not.

So whats the deal with this site? Are software developers giving them free copies on the hope that you will lose them and then decide to buy it after using it for a year; or, is this totally add sponsored somehow?

It's a way for developers to get their product out and encourage you to buy it if you like it. It's usually almost a full version, with very few things disabled if any. It's a great way to get your product into the public eye.
