Cool so now something that was free and widely used will cost money and wont be as popular. Gotta love greedy capitalists. I wish I could take a sign down and proceed to charge money for something that was free with the sign up.

Gmail will continue to be free, though it sounds like the App Suite will begin costing consumers precious moneys.

As opposed to, say, nonprecious moneys? ;)

Precious as in, "Do I REALLY need to PAY for an online calendar?"

GMail's the only one I've ever used - glad to hear it's still free.

Oh, I'd pay for that with unprecious (or even nonprecious) money any day! But you're right in that I wouldn't part with precious money for it.

Not like the BETA tag changes anything whether it was on or off. ;o

Sure it does. While in beta the developers can say "Yep, you found a bug. Remember we are in beta. We'll get to it." Post beta, they can say "That's not a bug that's a feature. This behavior is by design."

Question about Google Apps. Is there an "offline" mode? I haven't tried them yet, but it seems it would be good for a desktop environment but if you ever are out on the go and can't get a net connection that you'd be screwed.

The standard edition will still be free. You won't have to pay for your online calendar.

There are offline modes for calendar and Gmail for sure and I believe there are offline modes for all of them.

Not only is it a "feature", but it also comes with a charge. ;)

google apps are still free for personal / club / group use.

they are additionally marketing a business oriented version google apps to businesses.

as an individual (or group), you really have no reason to upgrade to the premium business suite of apps, and google isn't marketing this to you anyway.

they have every right to try and earn some money from business users by offering them a more premium service. and since google has deemed their software stable and release worthy, they decided to go through with it.

...which changes nothing for the average user...
