download the file and move it to the specific folder, or if you use firefox, you can change the settings for it to not save all files to the desktop as the default folder.

I use firefox, but you are telling me I can't download the file directly to the folder I want. I must first download it to the desktop then move it to the folder I want to keep it in???

OK, in Firefox go to Tools --> Options --> Main. See the "Downloads" box, choose whatever configuration you want. An Attachment is like an other file you download, so you need to configure the Browser accordingly.

in firefox, go to tools>options, then click on the "Main" tab. there's a box for "downloads" and click the option that says "Always ask me where to save files". That way you can/have to pick where to save the file you're trying to download. otherwise, if you don't like this, you can pick one location where firefox will always download to.

Thank you that works I can save directly to the file I want. Maybe you can help with another issue between firefox and gmail. I customized my firefox to show gmail but it doesn't work dynamically. I have to refresh the page to see new emails, is there a setting to change that?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying that you check gmail within Firefox? Or are you using some sort of add-on?

This is the norm with gmail. Yahoo! mail beta will automatically check every few minutes for new messages, but as far as I know gmail doesn't. Perhaps a better solution would be to use Thunderbird and set it up with your gmail account. From Thunderbird you can indicate how often you want it to check gmail for new messages. I use Thunderbird and it works beautifully. It's a much simpler interface and overall simplifies checking your email.

Thanks, maybe I'll try thunderbird. I'm trying to escape AOL (because all the knowledgeable people hate it) so I'm exploring my other options. I do really like the fact that when working in AOL my e-mails are real time. I'm also having trouble adjusting to tabs rather then just minimizing windows in AOL. I feel minimizing allows me to continually view my mail.

Edit I can get rid of gmail like I said I'm playing around before making a final decision

Use gmail because they support POP3 access for free, meaning you can use it with Thunderbird or Outlook. Yahoo mail doesn't offer this, you have to pay to be able to access your mail via Thunderbird or Outlook.

I just use Thunderbird so I wasn't sure about this. Thanks for clarifying.
