I have an almost brand-new Asus F3JP that i got about a week ago. I have upgraded it to 2GB of RAM. I have noticed that I cannot run any of my normal games on high settings (WoW, NFS:MW), and yet my desktop can run everything on max settings fine. Here are the specs of my desktop:

    Windows XP
    ATI Radeon X1800GTO2
    AMD AthlonX2 3800+

I know the desktop is slightly better, but I should still be able to run WoW and NFS:MW on at least medium graphics on the F3JP(I cant at the moment). I think Vista is part of the culprit, which is why I bought another 1GB of ram. That didnt seem to help much.

Im wondering if a fresh install of Windows XP would work. If so, how would I go about getting the drivers and software for the battery performance and the touchpad? Any input would be appreciated :)

    *Bump*

Anyone have any suggestions? Even as far as how to speed it up? I cant even play WoW on medium graphics without it being slow...

What are the specs on your lappy? I just bought the F3Jp, installed an additional GB of RAM and it works wonderfully (so far).

I haven't ran many games on it yet, but I tried out Half-Life 2 and I can run it at MAX settings @ 1440 x 900 resolution and it runs beautifully. On 3DMark05 I get 4179 and on 3DMark06 I get 2123. I'm not 100% sure but isn't HL2 more demanding then the games you mention, if so they should be running fine.

If you are in "Quiet Office" mode or something you might not be able to run games as well b/c your "maximum processor state" will be lower than 100%. Also, are you plugged in for power? If you aren't then I think the laptop will switch to a power saving mode which you will need to switch out of. Make sure your laptop power settings are in the correct mode by hovering over the battery in the bottom right of the screen or Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options.

IF you decide to install XP (which I was considering if games did not run well) there are drivers on the ASUS website: Asus F3Jp Downloads. On the right side where it says "OS" pick Windows XP.
There should be drivers for the camera, LAN, wireless LAN, graphics, audio, the touchpad, and some other stuff. As for other utilities, you can probably find them on the ASUS site as well (I'm not sure if they are on the CD).

    Hope everything works out! :p

You should most definitely be able to run WoW on high. Run 3D mark 2005 and tell us what score you get.

Hmm...that doesn't sound right considering our laptop's are nearly identical..

Before I ran 3dMark05 I flashed my BIOS to the latest one and installed the newest graphics driver.

You might want to run 3dMark05 to make sure the score is consistent..I remember getting a score of 1000ish one time but after that I kept getting scores in the 4100's. Other than that I guess you should do what I did although I still don't understand why your score is that low. :(

You might want to check this out and confirm that your harddrive is in "DMA" mode. Like ejl said you need to go to device manager. Right click on "Computer", click properties, click on "Device Manager" on the left then expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers". Then go to properties for each of the devices with "Channels" in the name. Under advanced settings, there is a section called "devices" and each device should have "___ DMA ___" in it. If it isn't, then down further under "Device Properties" check the box that says "Enable DMA".

I ran it a second, and then a third time. The second time I got a 1046, and the third was a 1044.

I checked to make sure everything was in DMA mode, and it was.

I went to ATI/AMD's site to see if there were any updated drivers available, but there arent for the x1700...

Anyone have any other ideas? :/

Well the drivers won't be on AMD's site, they'll be on ASUS's site.

V8.33-CCC is the latest driver for x1700 (For vista): x1700 Driver

Thats not a vista issue, vista drops fps like 3%, 6% at max.

Thats definitely a software/hardware issue that we have to track down.

My first thought is that your in some sort of power save mode that throttles down the cpu/gpu to keep minimal power usage.
