I plan to be going from XP to Vista on my desktop, but I can't figure out how to work out my partions. I have multiple partions, one for XP, one for games, one for media/school work.

When I go and install Vista, can the built in partion manager in the setup clear all the info in the media and game partion, plus extend the OS partion?

When you say "clear all the info", do you mean format the partition? If so, then the answer is yes. You can create and destroy partitions.

I would spend $39 for Acronis Disk Director Suite to straighten out your partitions and then go to Vista (not sure why any sane person would want Vista.... )

Alright, since I'm cheap and don't want to spend any money, I will try my best to do everything from Vista. I will also look into disk management in XP and see what I can do with the partions as it is now.

minor hijack : my "recovery drive" has about 1.5 gb's free, whenever i try to extend my main drive to take the 1.5 gb it never works. I can shrink the recovery drive, and i can even partition the 1.5 gb's, i just can't find a way to add it to my main partition. Any ideas?
