Do you know of a backup program with decent features (similar to SyncBack, previously freeware, now Trialware)? In particular ability to synchronize folders & files efficiently across a home netwrok & external devices?

    PS:
SyncBack Free ver won't backup/sync folders & files that are in use, there's no incrmental backup, & many other feats don't exist in free version (link above).

Try M$ SyncToy 1.4, it's pretty good. You can also try 2.0, but it's still a beta version.

    SyncToy v1.4

    SyncToy v2.0

Strange. I am using SyncBack free right now and its works perfectly fine for me, including backing up folders/files that are in use. Haven't tried the incremental backup though!

Anyways, synctoy is another good stuff I use some times on another PC here at work. Works well.

Unison gets the job done, and has the benefit of being cross platform.

SyncBack V3.2.14.0?!?! Though there was new versions, I stayed put with this, because it just keeps working fine. I haven't even updated or anything like that.

Though I am trying to see if I should either update to V3.2.18.0....

Well, no.. I don't think I am going to update to V3.2.18.0... since the latest compare syncback/syncbackSE table says we cant copy in-use files using the free one.... so I guess I'll stick to the V3.2.14.0 as long as it keeps working fine.. In fact I just used it to back up and sync my work files between my laptop and the hard disks... Just works fine.. Let me know if u want to try this version and see if it works the same, I can send it across to you in some way.. I think I have the install file. Let me see. (I really don't know how its working here when u said its not possible, I am have no idea about these comp and software related things...)

Edit: yes, I have the setup file for the syncback I am using right now. Let me know if you want it (or if its allowed in here to share such files and stuff. Mods, can we?). Its not illegal or anything. I just downloaded it long back and kept it since then.

fonduekid, Thanks for your reply back. I tried the latest version of SynBack Free Edition, but it couldn't copy/sync in-use files (eg "Documents & Settings" & it's sub-folders). I have the older version that you refer to (ver. 3.2.14.0) & will give that a try.

swarmer, checked out Allway Sync, thanks. Will try it out alongwith SyncBack 3.2.14.0 & keep the best one.

Allway Sync didn't work at all (didn't pick up the directories & sub-dirs needed to be backed-up).

SyncBack 3.2.14.0 works well & has many advanced options, but won't copy/sync locked/in-use files.
