Hey everyone, is there a good dvd burning software? Like the ones that you burn so that you can watch it on TVs.

You can suggest freeware, shareware, or the ones you have to pay. Thanks.

I would suggest Nero. It is the best burning software in my opinion. You can pick up an OEM copy of Nero 6 on ebay for $10 or less. If you want Nero 7 probably in the $30-40 range. There is a trial version of Nero on their site if you would like to try it. It is the full version for the first 30 days. There are freeware programs like CDBurnerXP or Deepburner, but they can't burn DVD videos.

be careful with the Nero, the OEM nero 6 I bought with my burner for my desktop did not have a serial number which unlocked the DVD capabilities. switching serial numbers with another guy did allow it to work. so be sure the one you buy has a serial number which will enable the DVD burning.

I use Nero (Ver 6.x - latest patchset) and often use it after my Vidoe Editing Software (Pinnacle Version 9) has completed rendering - I find it faster and more stable than Pinnacle.

On my desktop for nightly backups I use Retrospect Express (came with DVD burner) and it works well also.

Nero has a new version (7.x) mixed reviews last I read - seems more resource intensive and for me did not look worthy of an upgrade.

I think what strikeback03 means is the OEM version of Nero he uses will not allow DVD authoring or burning - just CDR/CDRW. That is common with bundled software packages so you hit the 'upgrade button / Buy now' buttons

I use DivXtoDVD by VSO Software for converting AVIs and other formats into DVD structure. I've got an older version. Now they call it ConvertXtoDVD.

In the version I have, you need CopytoDVD, but I'm not sure if they changed that. They aren't free programs, but they are simple enough. I don't care for the menu stuff that Nero and Roxio offer. Of course, it isn't bad to have it available to you, I just prefer to not have to dick around with those.

One more for Nero. The reference to a serial number means that you have to type in a code number to get it set up. If yours doesn't come with one, put a message up here, and I'm sure we can help you out. Personally, I haven't used 7 enough to recommend it over 6. It might be worth it, though.

Eventhough its a bit late, also Nero user.

Like zazonz said, I would just buy either an OEM version or downloadable version off of Ebay or buy.com. I use to get coupons for Nero from buy.com where you could buy it for 20 bucks. In my opinion, it is crazy to pay 80 bucks for burning software.

A legal version of Nero will come with a serial number you need to enter when installing. Different capabilities will be enabled depending on what that serial number is. The one that came with my DVD burner did not allow DVD or SVCD authoring, as far as I can tell they wanted me to spend $25 to upgrade. Testing a different serial number allowed all the DVD authoring features to work without any additional software installation.

I use cdrecord/mkisofs, a set of command line tools to create ISOs and burn
them onto CD/DVD writable media. I also use CDBURN.EXE and DVDBURN.EXE
tools from the Microsoft Windows Resource Kit for the same. All are command
line programs. Nero is an ultimate bloat, but then I don't burn any movies and
    audio CDs.
