Hi guys - I'm looking to create a digital picture and video montage for my baby's first birthday. I'm surprised that I'm having a little trouble finding a slam dunk of a product for this. I'd prefer freeware, but I'd be willing to spend a couple bucks if there's an efficient yet powerful software suite out there for this.

I want to be able to include pictures, digital video (including audio) with effects (cut aways, fades...etc) and also be able to put a custom soundtrack in the background (with the video feed audio running in the foreground.

I have a new laptop coming in a few weeks with Nero on it and I believe that will work, but let me know if I'm wrong there. Bottom line is I need to get something before then since I have a month end deadline.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm having trouble finding something but I'm not really sure if I'm searching with the right terms.

I can warmly recommend Magix Movie Edit www.magix.com

It's rather cheap and offers loads of stuff for the small amount You have to pay ;-)
