I've been searching around for a good place to buy Vista cheap. I called up some of the places and they don't offer the discounts for my college or are just out of stock ( I think they are just trash company's ). Where has everyone else been buying Vista Ultimate from?
-
go to newegg.com it has awesome prices, or u could call bill gates and tell him u need to 'borrow" his copy of vista ultimate ._.
-
I was thinking I might call him too. I was trying to find one around 100$. Brother just bought one from school but they said you can only buy one. They have a 32 bit version of it, but I want the 64 bit. They also say that you can't buy for someone else... How would they know? (Anyone know?). It costed him 89$ for it and Vista Ult @ Newegg is what ...180?
-
i don't think there is anybody who sell's it for 100 maybe 150 unless "borrow" somebody's but that's illegal

CSU Pomona has vista business for $89.00, which is a very decent price

Student discount. They keep records( every software that I got through my school appear in my account and I can't buy them anymore). The 64bit use the same key as the 32 bit version. Maybe he could ask a friend to buy it for you?
-
You can probably chat with your college's IT team . . . most likely there is a way that you can get it for the academic price.
-
You can buy Vista Home Premium x64 for $99 on Newegg. I've been very happy with it so far.
-
Have a friend at school buy the 64 version for you. Problem solved.

Go through the MS web site, often they have special through another vendor and you can get very valuable products, like printer hubs, routers, etc.
I personally got free a wireless printer hub, a portable RT/AP and Client D-Link products, and a 4G flash memory stick, all free. -
It was already said but I wanted to make it clear, the license key works for both 32-bit and 64-bit. So if you buy 32-bit, you just need to get the 64-bit DVD, and the license for 32-bit will work just fine.
-
This does not answer your question, but you could just borrow one if you know somebody with a copy. That's what I've done and it's worked out well for me. I refused to pay so much dinero for it.

He can only buy one 64 bit but there is a 32 bit, I don't know if they count that together, because they list 32 bit and 64 bit separately. But for sure I can use the 32 bit key with his 64 bit disc? If so that would be a great idea, if it works 100%
.
-Thanks for the idea too Ayle and orev. -
Bootleg....What??!?!?!! Who said that?
-
Yes, it works, as long as you install the same version that you bought. So if you bought 32-bit Home Premium, you can install 64-bit Home Premium instead. The only possible issue is that you need to get the 64-bit disc, because 32-bit and 64-bit are on different discs.
The 64-bit disc can be a little hard to obtain though, if you can't buy it directly. Your school might have it, or you will have to borrow it from someone, request it from Microsoft (for a small fee), or you may be able to download it for free (see this thread for details on downloading) -
You still need to buy the FULL 64 version, not an upgrade.
-
So what happens if I only have the upgrade versions? They don't sell the full versions on the website....
-
There is a workaround with the upgrade version, but I don't know if it's permitted to talk about here. I want to avoid getting into any trouble, but TIP, you may want to read up on it.
-
I think I'll just find a way to buy the 64 bit upgrade -- this is too much work when it's going to cost the same anyway
