Love this quote for all the people complaining about vista compatibility issues.
"You've seen the absurd claims about Vista's supposed compatibility issues, trumpeted by Benedict Arnold tech pundits who should know better or were simply seeking cheap hits. The truth, as I demonstrated back in May 2007 in Hot or Not? Measuring the Success of Vista's First 100 Days, is that Vista is the most compatible version of Windows that Microsoft has ever shipped.

Thanks for the link, it's a very good review.

Can't wait to download it on 18th march through microsoft download center.

Actually, he said that instant search is off now. I feel cheated. I really liked it, now it's off by default. That's uncool. I think i'll try and find a way to hack the registry to get it back on by default for those of us who like it.

I too am kinda shocked about the part with the integrated search being removed. I didn't care for it in the first few days of using vista, but now after so many months, I use it constantly. I just know the files that I want to view and just start typing in the search in the start menu and there it is. I really do hope that it is not actually completely gone from that place in the start menu.
-
wtf, why would they kill instant search?
I think I'll turn off automatic updates as I'm 100% happy with the way everything is working right now..
gotta hate google -
i'll be upset if its disabled... Yes, please hack it or whatever to get it back. i use it every single day. i use my laptop every single day...

The Disk Defragmenter has been significantly changed so that users can now select which disk volumes are automatically defragged. In the original version of Vista, all available disk volumes were automatically defragged
, thats quite handy so you can now defrag 1/any drives you want, rather than having to defrag all of them ! -
I had to use AusLogics Defrag because the standard vista defragger barely had any options and doesnt even tell you when its done. Totally hopeless. Thank god they fixed this.
-
one of the only features i actually use in vista and their gonna remove it
-
Blame Google for that. They wanted this.
-
This article is great; I love how the writer provides plenty of examples. Thanks for bringing the review to our attention, OP.
-
Don't worry guys, i'll see what i can do to get it back. And if i can't, someone else will. There will be a way to have it on by default soon after it's released.

nothing changed, chill out guys!!! -
There is no longer a SEARCH icon in the second column of the "ORB" menu in sp1
You can, however, use the keyboard shortcuts, or click the ORB and type in the START SEARCH box at the bottom of the start menu
Also, by default, pressing the WINDOWS key, or click the ORB puts the cursor in the search box automatically (no need to select)
So, when you are typing on your keyboard, hit the WINDOW key and start typing the search terms.
As you type your term, Windows begins looking and places results IN the Start menu, or, after typing your term, you get two options: SEARCH EVERYWHERE and SEARCH INTERNET.
SEARCH EVERYWHERE will bring up the familiar windows search you were using pre-sp1
SEARCH INTERNET will bring up your default browser using your default search engine
In some ways, it is better than before--but it takes a little getting used to -
The only issue I've had with Vista is the slow transfer speed, when unzipping and extracting files. If they fix that with SP1, it's solid gold.
-
I find unzipping and extracting to be no quicker than before, and use third party applications
-
Downloading right now at 85% took me a second to see it had to keeping clicking check for updates until it showed.
-
-
Well that's good to know. Thanks for the screencap.
-
That upsets me about Google.
That's just Google being greedy about it's market share. No need for that kind of behavior. -
