I was taking a look at Ccleaner, Glary Utilities, and Windows AdvancedCare Personal but all 3 seem like they have good cleaners but not sure on which 1 is better sooo...... If u guys have any experiences with one of these or another cleaner u use your input would be appreciated on which one u think is best for VISTA.

I use CCleaner and I am still testing out Glary Utlities. Registry cleaners are one of those things where it may be a good idea to purchase, and in that case, Registry Mechanic is the end all solution, IMHO. It picks up twice the crapola that CC finds and gives better explanations, etc. Good luck.

I use Ccleaner and Glarys. Been using both for a very long time and never had any problems. But I don't just use Glarys for registry cleaning, has other useful tools.

I give another vote for CCleaner. Registry Mechanic is more hardcore, but costs money.

Is it easy to clean your registry using CCleaner? Do you have to mess with any settings? I've got it, but only used it to clean out cookies and what not.

    Taken from http://lifehacker.com/5033518/debunking-common-windows-performance-tweaking-myths:

However, I do have and use CCleaner :p

    And yes, it's very easy.

All u do is click scan for issues, then when its done, u fix them, it even offers a registry backup before it fixes it in case. very easy to use

    Hi:

I have been using Ccleaner also. It is good, but I have a desktop replacement running Vista Ultimate 64. When I use it on my registry it always wants to mess with the built in mouse pad and it's drivers. So I have to go in and un-check those issues. Using it after removing software is a wise thing to do as I just uninstalled Nero basics and that process left quite a few things in the registry. Otherwise I use it every day to get rid of cookies and temp files that I pickup on the web. It is a great tool and the configuration function for 'keeper' cookies is an easy drag and drop.

    Ccleaner is good stuff.

Nobody metioned, WiseCleaner however, there is a but:

The previous versions have worked very well for me, XP and Vista. It i way more thorough than CCleaner, but:

I'm not sure, it is possible that th latest update causes problems - thus I'm not sure whether I can recommend it.

    Older versions, definitely.

last time I used registry cleaner softwere .. and ended up reinstalling Windows

IMO, it's almost pointless to use any of those programs

P.S. I used RegCure, but it's not free

    Pointless - not necessarily.

Something got messed up on my mothers MEdion laptop - it was continously using its HDD - the old WiseCleaner managed to fix the problem.

They are able to mess things up though. For example - HP scansoftware seems allergic to registry cleaners...

And then its finding a good one too.

Registry cleaners are powerful programs, and they are key, if not vital to a computer's use. CCleaner and Registry Mechanic are great to use. RegMex is best for the layperson, due to its in depth descriptions. Any program you choose should be used wisely and online research can help the use user to decide between entries to resolve, but none the less, a registry cleaning application should be used at some kind of interval for the average user. I am constantly messing with my systems and find stray entries, etc. in the hundreds when I run my scans monthly. My 2 cents...

I like RegCleaner a lot: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html I also use CCleaner, but it's not the best for registry cleaning/misses old programs and the like, and is better for temp file cleanup, etc.

True, but it doesn't mess anything up.
I used Wise Cleaner a lot - but I'm not sure whether the latest version is safe to use.

That's true. I prefer manually editing it, and RegCleaner's pretty manual (just organizes reg entries and explains them), so ymmv.

CCleaner doesn't do the most thorough job. (It leaves unused entires)
However, up to now, it seems 100% safe - no guarantee though!!!
