Good program to draw on screen?

I am currently watching some CBT Nuggets videos and like how they draw on screen often during tutorials to explain things.
I may want to incorporate something like that into some of my recordings as well. Often I just do this in post processing but if I do it live it may allow me to speed things up and just let ideas fly as they come out.


CBT uses Camtasia's built in drawing capabilities. I have used it and its OK but I often use other software to record with. Anybody know of some free alternatives that work independently of any recording/presentation software so I can start marking up what ever is currently on my desktop?

 

I've used a Sysinternals small add-on with Camstudio called ZoomIt and it worked ok and should work with any recording software. Here's the link

 

Sharpie Ver. 10 should work great. But you can't make changes afterwards.

If somebody used Sharpie Ver 10 I would find plenty of changes to make afterward, such as... Life Expectancy.

ZoomIt - This one works I like the zoom idea as I used to back in the day actually keep a windows magnifying glass in my tutorials so people could easily see text and other small information I was doing on screen without having to play the video in 1080p.
The zoom is a bit different in how to achieve that but it works.

The drawing tools have everything you need and I really like that they included text, rectangle, arrow, etc so you can do more impressive markup.

The other one I found was called Epic Pen. It is a bit more seamless in that it never seems to just capture your desktop but just lets your overlay drawing onto it. Less advanced markup but it just works smoother/faster.
One big surprise that Epic Pen has to its advantage is that it lets me erase data with my eraser side of my Wacom pen. One big deciding factor is how ZoomIt works when using the tablet, there is a big delay so if I write to write a T I just get the dot at the top and bottom unless I wait and write slowly. Works fine with the mouse though.

Another + for ZoomIt is that it runs sandboxed, no installer for it.
Epic Pen does install but its super small and did not try to push any adware or advertisement in the installer.

I'll use both a bit more. I think if I was to use keyboard/mouse I would probably use ZoomIt, but if I want to use my wacom tablet for easier drawing and natural handwriting the Epic Pen probably works best.

If anybody has others, I'll test them out. Heck once I have 3 or 4 good ones maybe I can do a mini review/comparison.
