I wanted to write a review on my dell monitor and I was wondering if there are any free, good monitor benchmarking programs that would test the actual reponse times of the monitor and the brightness and so on....

brightness will require hardware - some type of colorimeter or spectrophotometer. So that won't be free. the same device might be able to measure response time.

That's probably the best way to do it. That and benchmarking it compared to other moniters. Comparing by the eye the way colors, brightness, and stuff look, etc.
