Hey out of interest and dont be affraid to swallow your pride if you are one of those people who swear by google.
Is it any good?
Any add-ons
Whats the speed like.
Visuals.
Security
People would like to know and so would I.
Thanks guys. For those who took the time to download and test for the rest.
-
It's not bad. I'm using it right now. No add-ons. Speed is nice. The UI is simple and nice. I like it. Security = each tab sandboxed. I'm testing it on my XP pc and in task manager I have 2 instances of Chrome...one using 22k and other 17k.
-
OK..... so far so good
Thanks McGrady for being the first.
Come on guys keep em coming in, would love to hear from you.
and If you are the 10th caller you get free tickets to hansen... LOL
Thanks -
I'm waiting for it to download . . .

The browser looks and runs great, the security is also top notch as it will alert you of phishing sites etc. So far on most other browsers by now I have said, "Well this feels weird so I'm not using it", after about an hour I'm still using Chrome and enjoying it........ Definitely a nice browser so far.
-
i am testing it right now. Looks promising , fast i must say. it looks weird , think cause its different from the rest meaning how it looks but eventually i think i will get use to it with extensive usage. i know its in beta stage but they can improve on the look of the tab it just sits there, the google logo, min, max and close buttons and the back and forth buttons all can use a touch up just to make it look a bit more appealing. thats just what i think for now. oh and looks pretty secure too blocking stuff that use to pop up in FF3. Will comment after more extensive use.

Has anyone compared Chrome to Opera?
Does Chore have problems going to the sites that only IE can get to. For example most sites that you end up buying stuff from. Because not all sites are set up for Opera to make financial transactions. -
I believe Chrome is partly using IE in the back, because when you click on Change proxy settings and Manage certificates, it will open IE's options. Also, you can't set the cache size in the Chrome's option, I think it's using IE's cache size setting.
-
So far I've only used it for a few minutes but it's incredibly fast. The layout is clean and simple, and the tabbed location works well and makes good sense. My only complaint (at the moment) is that middle click scrolling does not work.

Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
had a few "not responding" in vista64 when click to the previous page fast!!!

Well not too bad and probably people who used IE,, and then all of a sudden FF came out said it felt weird, so got to get used to anything thats new.
I read an artical that said Google Chrome is mainly ideas and controls from FF.
The OEM from FF said they have worked very close with Google with security and another issues.
They apparently have some kind of contract with Google which they have just renewed until 2011
So FF fingers are in the apple pie somewere. So you can see Even a mass player like google are taking advise from FF, -
How much RAM does Chrome use?
-
For me, it uses between 25 and 30MB, with 2 processes running, for a total of 60-70.
Handy trick to check this-- Just go to about:memory -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
I like it. It is fast and does not use a lot of memory. But am missing my FF customizations. Not use to the tabs at the top of the window. Don't like that typing something in the bar for entering urls takes you to a google search instead of straight to the web page like in FF. Are plugins built in? Since it plays an online radio station and youtube without needing to download any.

Here's my review of it:

Google Chrome sucks. It looks decent, but it's still pretty slow and with any flash on the page scrolling can feel sluggish. FireFox 3 beats it hands down.

It does not block ads therefore it sucks.

I just did a test with the browsers side-by-side. Google Chrome took an on sites I've never visited and timed them. It took an average of double the time to fully load a page (about 1-2 seconds more) with Chrome over FF. I'm running them on my desktop that's in my sig What are the specs of the system you're running them on?
-
I got the opposite. I cleared the cache and everything and Chrome came out on top. However, did your FireFox have any add-ons?
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Only PicLens, which doesn't usually run. Maybe FireFox is better optimized for quad-core systems? I'll run some tests and see...
-
For me it feels like Chrome is just ripping through pages faster than Firefox ever did. I tried loading Firefox with 0 unnecessary plugs/addons and Chrome was still faster.
HOWEVER, there is definitely some kind of scrolling problem in Chrome. Scrolling up and down is just bumpy and awkward in Chrome, whereas in Firefox it's always smooth and consistent. -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
They both scale really good across all four cores, though I did fine Chrome to be more demanding, even though it's slower. Another thing I don't like is that you can't push the middle button on your mouse and drag around the page to scroll, you can do that in IE and FF. Chrome still needs a lot of work.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
chrome is so much faster. im using it right now on this site and the pages fully load in under 1 second.
-
just got home installed it and it looks great on vista
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Google Chrome takes a second to load up the forums. FireFox 3 does it instantly (as soon as I click the link, it's done loading).
-
hmm, FF3 still wins the prize for gold but chrome comes in second, with some fixes like scrolling and changeable skins...etc, it could be very good.
-
I have been using it all day with no real intent to switch back unless something catastrophic happens. Chrome is clean, fast, and very nice looking.
-
Chrome seems a smidge faster than FF3, but I'm not sure why the address bar is like Size 20 font lol. I like it, but still prefer FF3.
-
I'm having no scrolling problems, and it's still much faster than FF, EXCEPT ON NBR! ***?

Stay away from the 'Help make Google Chrome better'
I realized they were archiving EVERY PAGE i visited on World wide Web. -
Chrome is just in the beta stage, so it would be a lot better when the final release is due. Question is: will any of us, the loyal FF fans, ever ditch FF for Chrome?

I think i am seeing the future of Web Browsers... We Must Not not forget that
Google Chrome Started that.
a light-weight app, fast, stable and secure.
The main problem: If we will go on with this road, the Hardware Manufacturer's like Intel, Nvidia, AMD and others will be affected.
There is no need to buy a new pc. No innovation for hardwares but in software... wow! -

I didn't like Chrome. It looks too much like IE. There is no STOP button.
The menu options are inconveniently located in the far right.
The status bar is only partially displayed.
Created shortcut icons on the desktop and in my quickstart menu without asking me.
Don't like the look of the buttons and the ugly top portion which ends with "tabs".
Uninstalled it like a virus. :| -
There is no search bar... what an irony..the world includes Google search bar & Google themselves have excluded dedicated Search bar by default
-
After starting and reading this thread, it does not seem right now that chrome has brought anything new or amazing, just another browser that is just that, another browser.
Will stick to FF3 and wait for a final release and updates and upgrades.
Thanks so much guys for the people who took the time to test for the rest.
Good on ya! -
I think it's still quite better than IE7. Haven't tried IE8 yet but for the meantime, I'll give Chrome a chance and will use it for another week or so.
-
Anything is better than IE7 .. IE7 does not even qualify as a browser IMO..
its more of an open door to let the Viruses & malwares in. -
-
The interface was designed to be unobtrusive, so the status bar only shows when you hover over a link.
I think the installer does ask you if you want to put short-cuts anywhere on your system, but I could be wrong.
The buttons and interface design are merely opinion, but I'm pretty sure someone will make skins for this browser upon the full release. The top portion starting with tabs makes sense, since that's how the back end of their browser is organized. It's probably possible to reskin it to your liking later.
It is an open-source project, so give developers some time to get their Gears going. (pun intended, hehe)
I've been using it for a while, and I like it so far. The multi-process architecture makes for really smooth browsing no matter how many tabs I have at once, which was a problem for me in FireFox and Opera.
True, more customizability would be nice, but it's just a beta release, so I was only expecting a bare-bones browser, and I've been impressed. -
This thing loads pages so fast that I haven't had the need for a stop button yet. Also, I really like the task manager. Finally, the clean look really appeals to me.
Hopefully, they will continue to "Beta" this browser to perfection. -

I suppose the true potential of Chrome will be evident (1) after a few days and (2) to particularly those who are heavily engaged in Google's web-based app universe.
I have now been using Chrome for about 8 or so hours. It is good. Actually, it is very good. Some of the functions are buried rather deep. It is, however, rather rough around the edges but that as Cronus posted above is only a matter of time. It is fast! And, it is minimalistic, which I like (others of course will have a different pov on this). I have yet to crash it. It does block popups quite well. Flash is a problem on some of the sites that I have visited. I like the password saving feature but being so used to the Wand in Opera, I find myself always reaching for it. One problem that I have found is the following: I use ObjectDock, which is positioned at the top center of my screen. Chrome's tabs become a slight problem to use as ObjectDock swings into action as I sweep my mouse over that area. Can't move Object Dock to either side or to the bottom - personal preference! But that is neither here nor there!
One thing that IS quite irritating is that the font size on the search bar (or whatever it is called) is HUGE and there is no way I can find to resize it.
For my regular use, however, I will continue using my favoured browser - Opera.
But and this is a BIG but, as and when I begin using Google Apps more extensively, I think Chrome will be the way to go. Oh yeah...I would want it to be skinnable too...cant stand the default skin.
Cheers! -
Great Job Google! for a beta release! -
So far so good.
Stable and no big problems. No issues with secure pages. Something FF3 and IE8 had problems with.
Every open tab adds a process and adds to your memory usage, but is not much.
I'll give it few days.
