Ok so I use my laptop then go watch some tv and when I come back the internet isn't working. I see that the router, wireless card, and my modem are all fine. My host computer is able to acess the computer fine. Thing is on my laptop I can only acess google. I've tried a bunch of other sites and it doesn't acess any others. I can search for anything with google and it works. I searched our forums and it went through then I clicked the link and it acesses the website but very very very slowly. I have no idea what could be causign the problem especially since my internet and wireless are working fine and I didn't change any settings or anything. And why only google? On my internet wireelss properties I have excellent strength and am connected.
EDit: I;m typing this on my laptop and it went through but no other sites are working. Its not connecting to anything but google and some of the google search links are working while others are not. I google the problem and there were others with the problem but no concrete answers.

Is your wireless router secured?
-
Hmm.... that is very strange.... iv never heard of that ever... ill look into it for you.....
*off topic* review Crysis, that is the best game ever -
Something screwed up the DNS settings on that machine.
I bet if you plug it in wired and disable the wireless your pages work fine again.
I ran in to this problem on a desktop a while ago with 2 LAN cards I can't remember what the command was to reset the LAN settings. -

Yeah it has WPA security. Also now its not working at all, not even google and yet my network diagnostics say I am connected to the internet. My device manager doesn't report anything wrong with my wifi.
Yeah I think I am at least going to do a mini review of crysis and UT3 over my winter vacation. But HEEELP! Thanks guys. This is weird and I'm not a newb but never even heard of this and can't think of anything that could be the prob. -
Wow that is weird. Have you run your AV, spyware apps etc.

Yeah, nothing no spyware (it was like 20 min while I left to watch tv). Also I just connected to a neighbor's wireless and it worked fine. Then odd enough when I tried to reconnect to mine while I clicked connect and it said identifying it worked fine and as soon as ti connected to my network "dlink" it stopped responding. So my laptop is not the issue since it connects to my neighbors. So it has something to do with my router I guess because my modem is working fine with my desktop which I am typing this on.

Try putting in openDNS server IPs for the DNS and see if it works. -

^ No idea what that means tebore. What do I do exactly? Also like I said my connection through the router and modem connected to my host pc is working fine if that has anything to do with it. I resetted the router but it didn't work.

most modems you can view the diagostic page that tells you the status of the dns server. most modems are avaiable through 192.168.0.1 in your browser.

Ah yes thanks alot. It says DNS failure and all my other tests passed. So is this something I can fix or do I have to contact my ISP?
-
I just started a topic with the same problem. do you have att in florida?
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah ATT/bellsouth. I live in gainesville, FL. Exact same prob as mine?
-
if restarting your modem doesnt fix it, wait a while and if its still not back up yell at your isp
-
yes,
The only site I can get to is this one and google sometimes. Every site I try other than that won’t work. I’ve never seen anything like it normally it either works or not. Weird must be att. I’m in palm coast, must be widespread
I tried disconnecting my wireless and go right to the modem and it still is no good. I tried pinging my dns server and dns1 times out dns 2 gets 2 responses before it times out. -
I tried calling att tech support and its busy lol looks like were sol tonight.

Yeah my modem diagnostics says this dns failure. I'm going to try the number they give, probably the same as yours. Well its good to know I'm not alone and its the ISPs fault and not my hardware.
Is it 1888 321 2375? I get busy signal too. So I guess its something they will fix. -
I got a work around for you.
Go in to your router and look for DNS settings
and enter these IPs
208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. -
It was out for me too. I really don't want to mes with my router with DNS or the IPS so i just stuck it out by watching anime till it came back up a few mins ago.
-
mine just started working, for how long... we will see

Same here. Now the IP test still fails but it does not say DNS failure only says no response from the ping portal server. Otherwise internet is working fine.
Google took over my internet? HELP!
