Edit: Check out my blog too, since i have "nearly" the same post there and the images are hosted on Picasa.
Just wanted to report that with the latest Intel drivers for Windows 7 and using Mirillis Splash Media Player Lite 1.0.5 i was able to play a 1080p trailer clip of the movie James Cameron's: Avatar.
The notebooks specs:
Compaq CQ60-116eo
Intel Celeron 575 2,0 GHz (Single Core)
Intel GL40 or Intel GMA 4500
2 GB Ram
I first tried playing this with Windows Media Player 12 but the computer would lock up thanks to the prosessor being stuck at 100%.![]()
But then i downloaded Splash Media Player and enabled Intel ClearVideo and now i could play the clip while the prosessor hovered at 65-70%.![]()
So instant success!![]()

Nice! So a notebook with a Celeron/GMA 4500 can play 1080p! That's better than what I thought it would be. May I ask what the framerate was?
BTW, is that CQ60 your notebook or a friend's? B/C you sig indicates that you have a HP Compaq nw8440, which is the same as my notebook! (though yours has better specs) -
Wow, that's impressive.

Its my little brothers notebook.
I would never buy a Intel GMA card since i usually play demanding games.
GPU-Z now identifies the gard as GM45 while CPU-Z identifies the Motherboard as GL40.
Must be because of the latest Intel drivers.
And heres some screenshots. xD
Now my CPU usage is even lower. xD

Nice, where can I download the new Intel drivers?

DEagleson, I would appreciate it if you could try my bits-and-pieces DXVA guide (on your brother's GL40, specifically).
It should give a more accurate decoding of video through DXVA (if it works), than Splash Player and MPC's internal DXVA filter.
Of course, if it doesn't work, you'll just get 100% CPU usage like in WMP12..
Feedback is appreciated if you get the chance to try it. -
Maybe il give it a try, but i need permission from my brother first.
He gets so mad when something doesent work as its suppose to. xD -
MPC-HC should also work with DXVA, if that's a media player that people prefer.
Edit: Doh. Never mind. They say they only do bitstream mode... that might rule out Intel.
Edit2: Huh. Maybe their page is wrong: http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2009/03/15/intel-clear-video-and-h264avc/ I certainly hope the Intel link is right, because MPC-HC is my favorite player on Windows. It's no mplayer, but it'll doLast edited by a moderator: Feb 2, 2015 -
Intel ClearVideo is quite picky but it "just works" with Splash Lite v1.1.
But for all the other codecs that Splash Lite lacks, a good codec pack combined with MPC-HC does the job nicely.
Got DXVA working on Intel GL40 (1080p playback possible)
