So, I am getting my computer with vista business 32 bit. I have decided I would like to try 64 bit and know that there are drivers available for my system. How do I go about getting a 64 bit version of windows vista to install onto my sytem? Do I have to pay for a 64 bit disc? Is there any way to get a universal 64 bit disc then put my product key i got for my 32 bit vista? Where to get such a thing if it exists? Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I believe that if you call Microsoft they will have to supply you with a 64-Bit disc gratis and your current key will work.
Not too sure, this is what I believe. -
Your CD-Key is for 32bit only. You will need a 64bit CD-Key as well as a 64bit install disc.

Like FoxTrot said the current key will work you just have to get yourself a copy of the 64bit version.

I've tried using the Vista 32 key on the bottom of my laptop with a 64 install disc.
It denied it. I don't know, maybe it's an HP thing. -

Used my 32bit serial key to install 64bit version of Vista about 2 months ago, worked perfectly. Just poke the company you bought the laptop from to send you a Vista 64bit cd without an extra serial.
Also i think you can buy them from MS site for $10. -
Normally Microsoft should/would suppl you with a 64Bit disc -I believe there is some cost invovled - material cost of disc and post & packaging.
Theoreically all 32Bit keys work on a 64Bit installation.
But: Some OEM keys have causedtrouble in the past - from whatI heard you will have to call Microsoft in that case.
Some people have been requested by Microsoft to contact their OEM supplier - i.e. you have a Dell laptop, contact Dell, this does not work however if your manufacturer does not supply a 64Bit OS with any hardware.
In that case you'll possibly have to bug Microsoft again. -
Are you sure Microsoft will still trade you a 64bit disc if you give them your 32 bit code? I checked around the site some, even found a place where you could request it, but kept on getting an error saying that the deal had expired. x.x

You can get a 64 bit DVD from MS only if you had bought a retail 32 bit Vista license. OEM keys are not accepted.

Most 32bit work with 64bit discs, some OEM like HP have issue and when you try to activate it with MS they will say you need to contact HP. Asus OEM was like that for a long time and ASUS even said they do not support 64bit, but that has changed. HP is the worst in terms of OEM anything.
Got Vista 32 with computer, any way to get 64 bit OS using same product key?
