IE8 is still horrible slow and freezing up on some websites.

    Still sticking with Firefox.

Windows 7 64bit on HP HDX-16. All drivers are all up to dated. Graphic card is also overclocked by 33-35% in 3D mode.

I will never touch any browser other than IE8 no matter what. It has the best interface, and the best compatibility!

you really do have a problem, probably with your networking or something like that. Don't blame Win7 for everything. I had no problem with IE8, it was faster than FF imo.

try downclocking the laptop to normal/nominal. 'de-tweak' everything you've done.

If IE8 starts behaving normally/as expected, then it's something YOU have done.

IE8 is not too horrible for me but older IEs are really lame.
Yet, FF is my best browser currently. FF is easy to use(Good UI) and have a lot of good add-on.

Firefox has a lame UI. And is slow to start initially.

Chrome, IMO has the best UI and speed.

IE8 has a better UI (IMO, of couse) than Firefox and better compatibility than BOTH Chrome and FF. And it's not near as slow as some suggest. It's my main browser at the moment.

    IE8 + addon > FF + addon
All of the good addons are available in IE8 as well, but IE8 is faster than the latest FF. I like IE8's inteface, so there's no need to customize the UI.

IE8 shouldn't lag or freeze on your computer unless it's having a compatibility problem. In that case, turn on compatibility mode for that website you're having glitches and it usually fixes the problem.
IE8 uses the standard HTML while the compatibility mode uses IE7 mode of rendering.

The words "best" and "fastest" don't go together for Firefox.

IE8 - I generally find that any slowness appears on sites with any kind of Flash content.
It may be a problem with either Flash (there definitely was one, not sure if there still is) or another add on in IE8.

FF... I keep mine as a back up and it seems to be getting slower and slower at starting... and if I close it and try to open it again it has gotten slow too...

But works OK - Interface - I prefer IE8 - that's why I use it nearly all the time. (And keep FF as a backup)

IE8 suppose to be more dangerous than FF right?
In the Mozilla website, I read that. It said FF is safer than IE.
I think it might be true because IE used by almost everyone and every PC.
Many viruses are designed for IE. I think Opera will be the safest.

I double-clicked my Firefox Portable the first time I can move my mouse pointer around after Windows 7 installation. Every single thing, including the modified UI, bookmarks, add-ons, ABP configurations, and even history, are totally untouched.
I am quite satisfied with that :p

However, Google Chrome Portable didn't work so I had to install a new one :(

Honestly speaking, IE8 is much improved since IE6 and 7. But competitors are better, unfortunately. :p

MaximumPC did a test and the fastest was Apple's Safari but Opera 10 wasn't out yet. 2nd place was Chrome. The max difference.. 2secs. I use IE8, Opera and Maxthon.

I tested out the Google Chrome v4 Beta. It works great!
I would say it is better and faster than IE and FF and older version of Google Chrome(v3 sucks).
GC have clear/big screen and clean UI. I am not very familiar/adapt to GC now due to the new UI(not same with FF) but I just love it.
So, I don't use FF now. Say Good Bye to FF.
Now, I am waiting the result/feedback of Microsoft Security Essentials. If it is better than Avira Antivir Personal 9 in both Detection Rates an Resources, I will switch to it as well.
I am bored with Avira AP 9 and FF.

At this point, I don't see any reason to use another browser when IE8 is up to today standards. However, IE6 did pales in comparison to firefox 1/2 with the innovations that firefox offers.

Many reason to switch from IE6 to firefox are:

    tabs
    add on
    search engine built-in
keyword search is not a separate window
    more secure (subjective)
up to date with html standard (sadly html 5 will not see any use until XP dies completely)

I know what you are thinking? Why are you talking about IE6 when we have IE8? To me, this was the time when many have switch from IE to firefox.

Don't get me wrong, I support firefox and continue to use it as my main browser. To the common people, what does firefox offer that IE8 don't? I do suggest installing a secondary browser in case one fails, you can use the other to fix the problem.

Have you tried Compatibility Mode on IE8? I too found that IE8 crashed an abnormally high amount compared to IE6, IE7, Firefox, Opera... just about anything. However, I suspect compatibility mode would fix much of that.

Flash does tend to cause a lot of web browsing issues in general, and freezing in particular. I've noticed that recently, with Opera 10 and Flash Player 10, I've been getting notices when Flash content is causing my web browser to stop responding asking whether I'd like to abort the Flash content. I don't know if that notices happens with the IE version of Flash Player, or if it's Opera-specific, or what, but it does solve a lot of crashes.

Silverlight also causes a lot of crashes for me, but it should be more reliable with IE. I just don't install Silverlight to avoid those issues.
